Just over 2 hours after arriving at our hotel near Keflavik, the display started while there was still some residual light in the sky. Retired to bed 3 hours later with the display still there and changing. Here are a selection grabbed from the many. It was the best display seen by our guide this winter. I particularly like the Angel of the North flapping her wings.

Amazing pictures Ann. So jealous, how rewarding for you when you had just arrived. I hope the rest of the trip is as good.
Wow - absolutely superb. I'm no specialist but these are some of the best I've seen.
Very jealous - I went to Iceland in November & did felt lucky to see faint "level 2" displays on 2 of the 3 nights there.
If you are still there, I recommend going east/south to Jokulsarlon. Small icebergs float serenely across a glacial lake - make sure you go to the beach there to: the sea pushes huge blocks of ice back onto a black volcanic sand beach. Surreal & beguiling.
