Fens at Risk

This weekend the RPS Contemporary Group are running 2 days on the Fens at Risk and yesterday afternoon we were asked to take images to illustrate this. Here my attempt to convey the gradual takeover of the land by the water as sea levels rise from global warming. It starts with some areas having higher water table than the norm for the time of year (as at the moment). Some vegetation is underwater but generally the water adds to the visual impact of the scenery. As the water gets deeper more of the vegetation is engulfed and the vegetation dies and rots.

A couple of extra Fenland scenes not part of story board!

Welney - Moon Set, Sun Rise

Members of the RPS Nature Group attended the Swans Awake event at Welney WWT yesterday and witnessed the setting of the full moon as the sun rose to give us a bright clear day for the rest of our time at the reserve. Here a few images to give the atmosphere; unfortunately the wind direction meant the swans departed away from us except for a few groups. The Barn owl over the bank was a great addition and later would become the focus of our photography.

Infrared Images Thurne and Turf Fen

Today we had a very enjoyable landscape photography day led by Justin Minns, visiting Thurne Dyke drainage mill and the drainage mill at Turf Fen which can only be viewed from the opposite bank. The weather was very grey and quite rainy most of the time with just a few lighter areas appearing in the sky. Here some shots taken with my compact IR-converted camera  - jpegs taken direct from camera which I feel give a good feel for the day!
