I spent an hour at Paxton Pits today after a morning work party and was rewarded with views of at least two Kingfishers - neither of them the same as last weeks which was a female. Lovely light and reflections for the water birds - Coot, Dabchick, Shoveller, GC Grebe, Mallard, Gadwall, Teal, Raven and Heron

Paxton Pits Snow, Ice and Birds
With the Pits themselves frozen, the water birds have congregated by the river, while smaller birds are struggling to find food in the snow covered vegetation. Only the Heron remained on Hernonry South Lake. The Barn Owl was out quartering around midday while the Goldcrest was tirelessly hunting on the river bank. Bright sunny day so the views were magical with the ice patterns and frost on top of snow

Heron and Dabchick at Lackford Lakes
A much-reduced party from CCC and the RPS Nature Group visited Lackford Lakes and enjoyed photographing Heron and Dabchicks in the pouring rain from a dry but drafty hide. I tried some slow shutterspeeds on the rain and was surprised to be able to handhold at 1/60th second (subsequent frames 1/250th, 1/1000th, 1/1000th and 1/2000th). A pair of Dabchicks kept us amused for a lot of the morning.

Along the River Nene
A few birds from a walk along the River Nene, starting with a Kestrel that perched up in front of me. Good to see a flock of Goosanders.
