Lackford Lakes - Woodland Birds

Unfortunately cloud levels had increased by the time that we visited the woodland feeding station at Lackford but the birds were as obliging as ever. My favourites were the Coal Tits and Marsh Tits though the Nuthatches always steal the show!!

Garden Birds in Flight

Every year, for a short time, we get invaded by large numbers of starlings with their young on the feeders. This year, we had up to 30 on some days all squabbling and competing with the Long-tailed Tits and Greater Spotted Woodpeckers.

Birds at our Feeder into the Light

We had some fun photographing birds on our feeders with the sun almost directly behind them showing of the wing feathers. These were taken at 1/2500 of a second and still not quite stopped the motion and focus not always right on the eyes but I love the patterns the wings make.

Nesting in Full Swing in the Wood

We spent a long time watching a pair of Long-Tailed Tits filling their cobweb and lichen nest with feathers. Only the ?female appeared to be collecting feathers though the male was in close attendance the whole time. A pair of Bluetits had a nest in a very tall stump and appeared to be bringing out pieces of egg shell. Have added a short time-lapse video of a L-t-tit rearranging an added feather.
