The journey to Launde Abbey (near Rutland Water) for a Nature Photographers convention involved a large number of flooded roads both near home in Cambridgeshire and around the Abbey itself. I took a paddle around the grounds before the first session started.

Fens at Risk
This weekend the RPS Contemporary Group are running 2 days on the Fens at Risk and yesterday afternoon we were asked to take images to illustrate this. Here my attempt to convey the gradual takeover of the land by the water as sea levels rise from global warming. It starts with some areas having higher water table than the norm for the time of year (as at the moment). Some vegetation is underwater but generally the water adds to the visual impact of the scenery. As the water gets deeper more of the vegetation is engulfed and the vegetation dies and rots.
A couple of extra Fenland scenes not part of story board!

Reflections in Flooded Fields
The floods are going down in Toft but there are still several lakes in the large meadow by Bourn Brook. There was a thin coating of ice yesterday morning which gave some very impressionist reflections.

Toft Flooded (Again!!)
For the third time this winter, Toft was closed to access from Bourn yesterday. This time the flood was deeper and more extensive so a Police car was needed to block the inevitable people who would attempt the road. It does mean a long drive round to bypass this. The side roads and fields are carrying a lot of water also.

Flooding in Toft and Cambridge
Toft has been flooded twice already this year. This was on Christmas Eve after the floods had gone down enough for traffic to get through from Bourn. Brookside was still impassable as were the local footpaths. In Cambridge, Coe Fen was flooded giving great reflections.
