CCC Walk at Grantchester

Yesterday evening, we held our annual meet up and walk at Grantchester. Usually there are lots of Demoiselles, Mayflies etc to photograph in the reeds and long grass but this year has been so dry that insects were in very short supply but we our walk around the village produced plenty of photographic opportunities.

CCC Outing to Grantchester

Eighteen members of our camera club met up for a walk along the river in Grantchester. I travelled light with just my X100V compact and a closeup filter. I wanted to capture the abundant Banded Demoiselles and Mayflies in their habitat as with images 3-5 but I also took some at wide aperture that needed focus stacking to complete.
As the Fuji does complicated multiexposure, I also played around with that using different blending modes and some intentional camera movement.

Grantchester through a Pinhole

I constructed a pinhole lens a few months ago but wasn't happy with the smoothness of the pinprick hole, so here a second attempt. It comprises a body cap with 4 mm hole drilled through and then a piece of foil with a pin-prick hole taped to a circle of black card and this taped onto the body cap (see last image). We visited Grantchester in very changeable weather - here a few of the results. It produced very vibrant colours and the characteristic soft 'focus'. There was considerable flare if I turned at all towards the light. The worst feature is that it focuses on every speck of dust on the sensor so cleaning up the images is very time consuming. Now for some more creative subjects!!
