Tattersalls February Stallion Parade

Geoff wanted some pictures of himself with the stallion, Notnowcato, that he looks after for the Stanley House stables so we went off to the Tattersalls Stallion Parade and February Sales. I particularly like the one below where Geoff and Notnowcato are obviously sharing a great joke.

New Foals

We have new foals in the field along our lane. They are still a bit wobbly especially the white one
who doesn't stay on his feet that long. Great study of genetics as each foal is so like its mother.

Geoff showed us around the stud in Newmarket where he looks after the stallion. The foals wer adorable as always. I concentrated on closeups with simple colour combinations and backgrounds. I also tried a few slow shutterspeed panning shots of two yearlings. I managed just one hoof sharp.

More from Tattersalls

Two more auctioneers fromTattersalls. They moved so quickly that it was difficult to catch just the right moment with the hands and expression.
Of th evening shots, I particularly like the one looking into the arena with the people's shadows.

Visit to Tattersalls

Today we spent the afternoon at Tattersalls Horse Sales in Newmarket. Thank you Anthony for arranging this visit. Great fun though I tended to get carried away with watching the bidding rather than taking photos. First image of the beautiful sales room is 15mm fish-eye view, second 16 mm corrected lens. Then a couple of the auctioneers and a bidder.
More to follow tomorrow.

Horses

We have had two pairs of horses in the field along our lane for many weeks now and, every time there is some lovely evening light, I think 'I must get out and photograph them'. Well last afternoon I did. Here we have mother and daughter on the left and the larger male foal on the right - his mother is quite nervous of the camera so took off at fast rate most times.

I tried two different monochrome conversions on one of the pictures - either with maximum or minimum green channel and adjustments on other colours. I liked the minimum green channel conversion and used this for the other monochromes.

Like Mother Like Son

A few images of the mare and foal in the field opposite our bungalow. The foal has grown very quickly and is looking less like a rocking horse model now.

Few more from Ely Eventing Day

A few images taken at 1/1000th second rather than the slower shutterspeed of yesterday's posting.

Ely Eventing

I tried various techniques at this event and found that panned shots at 1/200th second gave the best spray. I will post some faster shutterspeed images later.

We had been at this event for 7 hours when Bryan rightly suggested we should go back and start downloading the numerous images. I said 5 more horses or 5 minutes more at the water splash. The this happened. Fortunately neither rider nor horse were injured though the rapid inflation of the safety jacket caused some discomfort.
