White-Legged Damselflies and Friends

We made a visit to Willington to photograph the White-legged Damselflies and Banded Demoiselles. It was a bit breezy and generally the Damsels did not want to arrange themselves well but enjoyed a session standing in the stream with these wonderful insects all around me.

Wicken Fen (NT) in the Summer

An attempt to show the essence of  Wicken Fen on a sunny day. The stars are the White Water lillies at their best in all the Lodes. Large numbers of Willow Emerald Damselflies and Ruddy Darters as well as larger species such as Emperor and Brown Hawker - too fast to capture. Birdlife fairly limited and the heat produced too much haze for clear shots across the water. Common Blue and Argos Brown butterflies photographed

Clare College Gardens

Clare College Gardens are looking wonderfully colourful at the moment, especially the herbaceous borders and the water lilies. I am not sure if the roses had come out of the garden but they were being carried with pride.

Madingley War Cemetery

Three infrared photographs from a visit to the war cemetery on a particularly dismal New Year's Day. There was still ice on the ponds and the water lily leaves were hardly visible under the ice. Taken in infrared they show up remarkably including all the veins and details.

IR in Cambridge

Some infrared images from a trip into Cambridge. The two ladies on the bridge were both wearing black - one must reflect or radiate a lot more infrared than the other.

I have done water lilies before with infrared - it makes the leaves translucent. I tried a flower as well this time.
