American Cemetery Cambridge

The autumn colours on the maples and other trees at Madingley War Cemetery are developing well though many leaves have not yet turned. The green intensity is reduced in full-spectrum photography giving a hint of what is to come if the winds stay away.

Variations on a Poppy Field

Most years there is a wonderful display of poppies on Burwash Manor Farm in one of their organic fields. I never know how to best portray them so here are some variations of technique - 1,2 Multiple exposures one in focus, one out of focus (23mm lens); 3 Focus stack at F4.5 (160mm lens); 4 single exposure F16 (23mm lens). Rest mixture of lens length and aperture.

Cobwebs in Toft Wood

The foggy mornings for the last two days transformed Toft Wood with large dew-covered cobwebs. The soft light accentuated the autumn colours of the leaves.

Spot of Red in Liverpool

What are the chances of a lady in red with white hair passing a festive white topped pillar box (which played Jingle Bells when you post a letter!)? The Telephone boxes are available as a retail outlet - coffee bar or the like!!

Ice and Snow at Vatavatyn, Iceland

We noticed this beautiful lake on Wednesday when driving over the pass and decided to make a visit there before our long journey to Vik yesterday. It was snowing when we stopped but cleared to give lovely views of the lake and surrounding peaks. The clouds were always changing and towards the coast the sky even had some colour. We also stopped briefly to photograph the 'red hut' - another for the series!

Red Hat Society Visit Cambridge

While running a one-to-one photocourse in Cambridge yesterday, we came across these ladies brightening up the town in every way. Thanks Chris for enlightening about the Red Hat Society. There are more than 40,000 chapters in American  but also 100 chapters in UK (http://britishredhatters2.weebly.com/). They follow the  opening lines of a popular poem by Jenny Joseph to dress 'disgracefully' and to have fun. They welcome new members so if you fancy dressing up, visiting lots of places and celebrating birthdays etc in style then visit their website (http://redhatsociety.com/).

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
