Great to meet up with everyone for the start of the monthly surveys at Paxton Pits. This month our survey was of the birds - we recorded 53 species with a few winter visitors among them - Golden Eye (large flocks on Island Pit}, Goosander pair and Redwings. Best sighting (and a long way off) group of Green Sandpipers.

Our Red Kites and Winter Visitors
We have a resident pair of Kites that fly around the house and are often seen in the local trees . This morning, the light was beautiful as they flew and then rested warming themselves in the early sunlight. There are also large numbers of Redwings and Fieldfare together with Starlings (probably immigrants) feeding on the abundant berries.

Toft Birds
I took Phil's Olympus camera for a walk today as my Fuji is quite hard to manage with a very stiff painful forefinger. Quite a bit of territorial behaviour getting going among the birds yet the trees by the old railway had a flock of more than 150 Redwings still here before departing north. Although it was quite cold there were obviously large numbers of gnats in the air by the stream.

Birds at Rye Meads RSPB Reserve
Some images from a RPS Nature Group outing to Rye Meads on a very cold frosty day with very limited light. As usual, the coots were bust squabbling while the Robins followed us around hoping for some disturbed insect life under our feet.

Winter Visitors to Cambridgeshire
Not great images as light very poor on Sunday but great to see flocks of Fieldfare and Redwings and mixed Finches/Yellowhammers, presumably linked to the very large berry crop this year.
