Gulls Catching Flies

The Black-headed Gulls were busy catching flies from the surface of the water making very elogant shapes against the dark water. The Grey Heron just looked grumpy.

Lackford Gulls

The light was great for bird watching at Lackford on Tuesday and I enjoyed photographing trying to make images using the contrasty light and shadows - generally not recommended for nature photography. Shooting at 1/3200th second with a 420mm lens on a micro 4/3rd body on high burst revealed a cycle of 4 wing positions as the gulls hovered looking down in the water for food.  I do like the patterns on the gull's breast in the 2nd and 3rd images.

Birds at Hunstanton

Some shoreline birds from my visit on July 8th on a mostly overcast afternoon. I was trying to capture movement and flight as flocks of waders etc moved through when the tide receded and exposed the mussel-bed-feeding grounds. I also attempted to capture the Fulmars and Swifts that nest in the cliffs - not a great success rate!!

Paxton Pits RPS Nature Group Outing

The weather was disappointing for our trip to Paxton to find signs of spring yesterday - cold and mainly grey. However, we did manage to find a few insects including my first damselfly of the year.
