Dorset 11 Lyme Regis

On the Tuesday of our trip, we visited Lyme Regis on a very hot bright day. I mainly concentrated on the people enjoying the location in the strong contrasty light. The artist was perfectly dressed for the location while the young provided entertainment leaping off the cob, canoeing, paddling etc. There was, of course, just sitting enjoying the view and sunshine or a gentle game of bowls.

Cromer Storm Clouds and Afternoon Light

After a beautiful sunny clear morning on Wednesday, storm clouds gathered at Cromer and we had a heavy rainstorm which cleared to give some very attractive late afternoon light.

Winterton Dunes - Habitat and Flowers

It is not often that there is an ecosystem small enough to do a reasonable survey of the plants and insects in a day. Winterton Dunes are unusual in that they support acidic plant communities, such as heathers and ferns, rather than the dunes on the North Norfolk Coast - where the sand is calcareous. There are areas of dune heath, wet 'slacks' between dunes and dune grassland which grades into grazing marsh and birch woodland.
Plants shown here Marram Grass, Yellow Bedstraw, Polypody Fern, Hare's foot clover, Cross-leaved Heath, Bell Heather, Yellow Rattle, Centaury, Royal Fern and sheep's Bit Scabious.

Southbourne Beach

We have moved from Petersfield in Hampshire to Christchurch in Dorset for our last 4 days. This was a visit to Southbourne beach yesterday by Sue and I at the time the supermoon would rise but unfortunately there was a large bank of cloud in the way.

Once the sun was above the horizon, I changed to my 100-400 lens to capture th boats, beachhuts and birds in the early light.
