Welney - Moon Set, Sun Rise

Members of the RPS Nature Group attended the Swans Awake event at Welney WWT yesterday and witnessed the setting of the full moon as the sun rose to give us a bright clear day for the rest of our time at the reserve. Here a few images to give the atmosphere; unfortunately the wind direction meant the swans departed away from us except for a few groups. The Barn owl over the bank was a great addition and later would become the focus of our photography.

Sunset, Moonrise and Jupiter at its Nearest

I went to watch sunset and moonrise yesterday evening and to record a special astronomical event. Jupiter was closest to the earth yesterday evening  in 59 years. Jupiter will not be closer to the earth until (mark your calendars) next century, on October 7th, 2129!

Moon Set, Sun Rise

I went out early to catch the moon setting this morning and, as the moon reached the horizon, a fiery
sun rose opposite. Lovely colours in the sky and landscapes today, from soft pinks to bright yellows and oranges

Moon Rise, Moon Set

This month's full moon is known as the Pink Moon though it appeared more orange as it rose last night into the clouds. I went out early to capture it as it set though again it disappeared into the clouds before it finally set. Last image of the sunrise this morning.

Jokulsarlon Moonset and Sunrise

Final images from the Glacier lagoon and beach. Beautiful lighting to finish our stay in the area - just the journey back and Reykjavik day to follow!!
