Half Marathon Team for the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust

Addenbrookes Charitable Trust had a team of around 200 runners in today's Cambridge Half Marathon and they asked if we could help record their participation. I positioned myself on the road to Grantchester from the Barton Road roundabout - a definite upward slope for the runners. The lead runners went through well spread out but the later runners tended to be in very large groups so the task was not easy even though I knew the vests that they were wearing. I think I recorded about 120 so quite a good proportion. Here are a few of the images. I am very pleased to support the Charity as this time last year I was in Addenbrookes myself and very grateful to the surgeons, nurses etc for their expertise, skills and care in getting me through.

Storm David Disrupts Our Plans

We had planned a trip to London to walk round Olympic Park and the canals but, after waiting for nearly an hour for the coach to Stratford, we decided that, as the M11 was blocked and also the A14 from Diss, it was unlikely that a coach would arrive. Quick change of plan and took the Guided Busway to St Ives - this turned out to be as long a journey as the coach to London but was unevetful. The journey gives some great views of the new buildings and constructions at the Addenbrookes' Site. When we got back to Trumpington P & R we found we had a flat battery and had to call out the AA to start the car before we could get home. Not a day that went well but everyone was very good tempered about it and the light in St Ives was beautiful (next blog)!!

Garden Party to Celebrate 250th Anniversary of Addenbrooke's Hospital

Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge  was founded in 1766 on Trumpington Street with £4,500 from the will of Dr John Addenbrooke, a fellow of St Catharine's College. To celebrate this anniversary, Mary, who has worked so hard for Addenbrookes in various roles, and Jeffery Archer invited ACT (Addenbrookes Charitable Trust) to hold an Evening Garden Party at the Old Vicarage, Grantchester. David Robinson, Chairman of ACT, compered the evening. It was wonderful to see the original documents from 1766 among with a book of notes by wounded soldiers from 1917.  There was music from around 1766 by a Baroque group, Keith Day ex-CEO of ACT seen here with the hospital Archivist,  gave an interesting speech about the history of Addenbrookes, and Mary Archer told us the history of the Old Vicarage with lots of amusing anecdotes. Earlier in the day the Archers had celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a large lunch party so the final event of the evening was an auction of the beautiful table decoration run by Jeffery with his usual persuasive style.

Woofs and Wellies Wandlebury Ring

A wet windy morning did not deter  walkers with or without their dogs from supporting ACT's (Addenbrookes Charitable Trust) first sponsored walk at Wandlebury Woods on Sunday morning. Here is the start of the walk. Unfortunately some of the route markers got blown away so I ended up standing in a part of the wood that  no one passed. Other images on  FlikR Click Here

Addenbrookes Charitable Trust is the Main Charity for the September Dragonboat Festival

This morning, ACT organised a 'race' between a Scudamore's punt and a Dragon boat on the Cam by Magdalene Bridge. Started fine but the rain soon set in. Undeterred, the ACT staff, including their Chief Executive Stephen Davies, took to the water in the Dragon boat. The festival itself is on September 12th at Fen Ditton. Rest of images on FlikR

Preparing for an Exhibition at Addenbrookes Hospital

I have been busy printing and framing 15 pictures for an exhibition in the corridors of Addenbrookes Hospital for 2 months from next Thursday. The Art Project director there requested Cambridge scenes, always a good selling topic to raise money for the hospital. I have tried to include a few unusual ones to go with misty snow scenes and monochromes
