Garden Project 18 - Maturity

I try to remember to document the garden through the year as part of my project to produce a Wildlife garden with as many habitats as I can in the smallish area of my front garden. Here a snapshot of a (late)summer garden when flowers are beginning to die back but still plenty of wildlife in the Herbaceous borders, Pond, Hedgerow, Woodland and Meadow. Some of the inhabitants are shown with their chosen plant.

Garden Project 16 - Variety!!

After a week away, even though there has been no rain, the garden is a riot of colours - all of it self seeded now or original plants probably purchased back in the late 60s when I moved to Toft (my only house removal within Toft included many plants as cuttings, seeds etc). Quite a few days work to reestablish paths etc and record all the new invertebrate inhabitants!

Garden Pond and Meadow

The only downside to having a wildlife garden for me is the amount of time I spend merely watching the plants and animals rather than working in it!! Here some images taken in very bright conditions - there were at least 8 pairs of Red Damselflies and 2 pairs of Azure Damselflies egg laying, plus Pond Skaters, Newts and Wasps coming for water for nest building. The Buttercups are giving way to Common Vetch, Yellow Rattle and Scabious
