A Winter's Day

Yesterday was clear skies from sunrise to moonrise. I walked up to Hardwick Wood to help with the annual coppicing (something I have taken part in for more than 60 years in West Cambridgeshire! The ground was still very frosted but out of the wind pleasant in the sunshine. Lots of tiny leaf fungi around but no larger ones. The Spurge Laurel, a local wildflower special, is coming into flower. The walk back into the wind was not so good!

It was a supermoon last night - known as the Cold Moon, a good description so it was a brief walk round the village to view it.

Sunrise on St Ives Bay

Our hotel in St Ives overlooks the beach so a couple of images from the window this morning before going down onto the beacharound 7am. It started overcast allowing some long exposures of the waves in both directions with beautiful green, blue and orange tones. Gradually the sky cleared and, as the sun came up, the colours changed to golden tones.

Technicolour Sunrise in Toft

With clear skies and minus 4 degrees, yesterday's sunrise was spectacular - bright yellow/orange skies contrasting with the heavily frosted foliage. I decided a walk across the Golf Course might give some atmospheric shots but got distracted en route to the Church Drift by the colours and light patterns in the village and some frosted fungi, berries and daisies!

Sunrise on the Thames

It was forecast to be a clear sunrise on Monday so we walked through to the Thames around 7am. These images are in order and show how the colours changed towards pink with direction of view and as the cloud built up. The exposures (for future reference!) in sequence were 20 secs, 20 secs, 6 secs, 1.3sec,1.3 sec and the rest 1 second, all at f22 using live composite mode on the Olympus EM1 II  - I didn't record how many exposures each had - obviously more where there were changes in the highlights being added as with reflections or contratrails. Not sure what passed behind St Pauls and left a dotted trail (?ideas)

Bradgate Park Dawn Onwards

Members of the RPS Nature Group met at 7am for a walk at Bradgate on Monday and our early morning start was rewarded with a colourful sunrise and plenty of Red and Fallow deer activity during the day.
