Birds at Rye Meads RSPB Reserve

Some images from a RPS Nature Group outing to Rye Meads on a very cold frosty day with very limited light.  As usual, the coots were bust squabbling while the Robins followed us around hoping for some disturbed insect life under our feet.

RSPB Rye Meads Star Species

The Green Sandpiper is a regular visitor to Rye Meads reserve in the winter months and came obligingly close yesterday. The warm weather seems to have affected the Grey Herons who were picking up sticks as if preparing for nest building. I enjoyed the metallic colours that show on Magpies in the sunlight, shot using the new Prefocus on the Fuji  XT-3 camera

More Birds - Different County - RSPB Rye Meads

Another day and another reserve - this time Rye Meads in Hertfordshire. Not a lot about but here a photographic record of the species seen for the diary (missed a photo of a very cautious Fox that prowled around the Gadwall hide where there is a dead goose). Using my old Canon 1D mk IV and 400 f4 lens and surprised at the amount of noise even at ISO800. Have got used to the very clean images from the Fuji system!

Confiding Sedge Warbler at Rye Meads RSPB

This Sedge Warbler was busy feeding young - beaks full of crane flies and Episyrphus balteatus hoverflies were delivered along with earwigs. Other noteable sightings - five Green Sandpipers and two Little Egrets

Rye Meads RSPB Reserve Waders and Gulls

After the heavy morning rain, it started to clear in the afternoon with beautiful lighting to show off the Lapwings and Black-headed Gulls displays - even a rainbow as a backdrop. Bit distant but good to see Green Sandpiper and Snipe (from Draper Hide)
