Yesterday's weather was not kind to our RPS Nature Group workshop on Macro and Focus stacking in Epping Forest with very dull conditions all day. I was using my wide angle set up plus an LED light which proved fine when there was a distant background but rather too contrasty for close backgrounds - a lesson learned I hope! With the increased visitor activity since our last RPS visits to the Forest, large fungi were hard to find but there were plenty of small specimens. Many thanks to Duncan and Qasim for their tuition during the day.

Epping Infrared Trees
With the very dull conditions on Sunday, getting good contrast in the Canon infrared images (b/w) proved a challenge but I do like the colour images from the converted Sony RX100.

Playing with Autumn Colours in Epping
The recent frosts had resulted in most of the trees losing their leaves so that most of the colour was on the woodland floor. A few images from Sunday, most with in camera effects, e.g Orton effect - one in and one out of focus on a double exposure, except 4 which is a combination of 7 images taken walking round a tree (Pep Ventosa technique). Don't think many work that well but certainly enjoyed trying!! The two straight shots (1 and 3 are easier on the eye).

Epping forest - Trees in Infrared
As I was staying in Chigwell after talking to Chingford PS (thanks for a very warm welcome), I took a walk in Epping forest in the morning before returning home. I am still experimenting with the IR-converted Sony and how best to process them. I found that setting the camera to RAW and JPEG and setting Creative style Autumn Leaves in camera (i.e. a warm profile), the JPEGS could be used from the camera as colour images and the raw converted via Silver Efex giving two variants for same image

Epping Forest Trees and Fungi
Autumn is certainly running late this year with the trees still fully green and very few fungi around. It was very bright and sunny yesterday for my walk in Epping Forest before returning home after lecturing to Chingford PS (thanks for your warm welcome). So a few creative attempts plus the only two fungi species that I was able to photograph
