Birds on Lady Fen Welney

Up till very recently, it would have been impossible to see three species of Egret, Little White, Greater White and Cattle Egrets, all together in England but here they are feeding together on Lady Fen Welney sharing the habitat with Grey Heron, Curlew and Pied Wagtail. It seems at Welney the Magpies have taken over from Jackdaws delousing the deer.

Slimbridge 3

Last set of images from Slimbridge in the afternoon as the light improved. Pleased to catch a Pied wagtail with fly in mouth - they entertained for most of the time. Lots of pairing going on among the Avocets and the Oystercatchers were mating. Even found a Redpoll among the Goldfinches and Siskin in the Alder cones

Toft Wagtail, Insects and Lichens

A  cold wind but warm sunshine brought out a few insects and helped photographing the lichens in the churchyard - an ongoing project. I include 4 that are distinctive enough to identify with good certainty. The Pied Wagtail was busy displaying on the Village Hall roof.
