After visiting Kelvingrove Museum (more to follow), we walked to the Hunterian Art Gallery, a modern building that also has a reconstructed concrete version of the Mackintosh's Glasgow house. In 1920, the Mackintoshes sold their Glasgow home to William Davidson, including all the Mackintosh-designed furniture and fixtures. Following Mr Davidson's death, these were gifted to the University in memory of the Mackintoshes and their father. The principal interiors have been meticulously reassembled and illustrate Mackintosh’s concept of the room as a work of art. A great place to visit and photograph - sorry we didn't discover this before John and Margaret had to return home.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh Designed House in Northampton
78 Derngate is the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh. It was 100 years old when MacKintosh redesigned the interior in 1916 for his patron, the Northampton Engineer W.J.Bassett-Lowke. I liked the kitchen for its space and light feeling, which may surprise folk as I am very sensitive to green!! The sitting room was very claustrophobic though might be better when the curtains are open.

House for an Art Lover
Scotland Street School
Scotland Street School, which was designed by Charles Renee Mackintosh, was opened in 1906 and closed in 1979. A very light interior with lots of CRM features. I was rather dismayed at how many of the rooms reminded me of my primary school - the desks, ink wells, outside toilets, clockrooms. My London County Council School was much drearier however with brown and cream paint not the vibrant blues and greens. I didn't take a shift lens today as it was raining heavily but wished I had for the exterior shots.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh Day
The first stop for us on our C R Mackintosh tour was the Willow Tea Rooms. There are two parlours , one in Black and white and one in shades of purple and pink.
We then visited the School of Art. A very tall building so I was pleased to have my Shift lens.
The door panels made a work of art on their own (reversed as mirrors)
