Parrot Eyes

We are giving our two grandaughters a short break in a B & B near Kings Lynn. Unfortunately the weather has not been very kind, certainly not for  beach time. Today we visited the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. The National Parrot Sanctuary have over 1000 rehomedparrots currently residing within the park with more than 100 species I got interested in the different eyes and facial feathers.

Hamerton Zoo

We decided to visit Hamerton Zoo yesterday as it was a pretty dull and grey day which would make wild bird photography difficult. Hamerton has improved the facilities for  Cats with larger enclosures all of whom looked very lean and content. It would be great if small zoos like this could concentrate only on some families as I don't find the facilities for the lemurs, monkeys etc so pleasing but unforutnately to get funding for their conservation breeding programmes they need to attract a wide public.

Meerkats and Red Kites

The three Red Kites that visited Hamerton Zoo yesterday for their tea did not go unoticed by the Meerkats who watched their every move. The kites swooped down and removed a chick from the large stork enclosure.

Big Cats and Small fox

Hamerton Zoo has recently acquired two more white Bengal tigers and they are in tip top condition. The Cheetahs have great pens with long grass to hide in and bushes to shelter under. The Corsac foxes are growing their long winter coats.

Corsac Foxes at Hamerton

The Corsac Foxes looked quite at home in the snow on Wednesday. They are very active but stop long enough for a shot while looking around before grabbing the food that had been put out.

Maned Wolves at Hamerton

The Maned Wolves from South America have a very strange build and gait. I decided to do some slow panning to get rid of the fences and posts in the background and was quite pleased with the effects.

Cheetahs in the Snow

We visited Hamerton Zoo near Huntingdon yesterday and had intermittent snow storms. The Cheetahs clearly did not like the snow and went inside fairly quickly.
In the third picture, the camera chose to focus on a snowflake rather than the cheetah but I like
the effect.
