Making the Best of a Wet Wedding

Always a shame when the sun refuses to come out as promised on a wedding day but Anna and Mark were remarkably calm and obliging and we managed a photo of their 120 guests in Trumpington Church and the umbrellas certainly added to the group photos. The Barn at Harlton is certainly a great space for a recption though too dark for much photography. I got married in Trumpington Church 50 years ago almost to the day and it rained!!!

Blackpool 3. Central Pier

The area between the North and Central Piers was full of Blackpool life including a very cold wedding party, rather disgruntled donkeys and active Lifeboat crew. Central Pier definitely hosts all the fun of the fair.

Family Portraits from a Wedding

Matt's sister got married yesterday so an excuse to take some family portraits as it seemed very strange to attend a wedding and not be the official photographer. Here a few where Sadie and Meredith were happy to pose or interacting with their other grandparents and their Aunt Lu and new Uncle Matt.

Wedding at Paddock House, Newmarket

On Friday, Phil and I photographed Sarah and Steve's wedding at Paddock House Newmarket, a very historic venue. It was originally the home of Augusta Leigh, Byron's half-sister and with whom he is thought to have had an incestuous affair leading to the birth of her third daughter,  Elizabeth Medora Leigh (Medora was one of Byron's heroines).
Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to us and persistent rain meant we couldn't use the extensive grounds for the photographs. The interior, although very grand, is a photographer's nightmare - limited windows, lots of dark wood, often too high ceilings for bounce flash, and yellow lampshades etc. It is an attractive venue and the bride (and groom!) looked stunning.

Two Weddings, Two Venues and Two Big Problems

During July, I have photographed two weddings both at local 'stately' halls and both on hot sunny days. This gave problems of contrast and, yesterday, problems of keeping cool enough to get the groups together. The first was at Longstowe Hall, where the gardens are magnifcent, especially the herbaceous borders, the lake and the rose garden.
The second was at Anstey Hall, which has the advantages of location being right next to Trumpington Church.
Both weddings involved large numbers of guests and therefore a challenge for the group photos, solved yesterday by standing on a balcony above the gardens.
If you were a guest at either of the wedding and wish to see all the photos, email me the names of the bride and groom to get the right wedding!!

Wedding

A longer gap than usual between posts as the wedding has taken up a lot of time especially after the event sorting and processing the photos. Anyway 290 photos - here are just four of my family and all the bridesmaids. Sadie thoroughly enjoyed her day as the youngest. As you can see it was raining bur Emmanuel College fortunately has plenty of colonnades for photography.

Tynemouth Beach

Beautiful sunny afternoon at Tynemouth. Views of beaches, old swimming pool, fulmar and people enjoying the location.
