Completing Dorset Visit: Day 6 - Sabre Wasp

Preparing 2023 images for archiving, I realised that I never sorted and processed images from day 6 of our Dorset Trip when we visited Hook Woods - general insects to follow but here Rhyssa persuasoria, the Sabre Wasp, trying to locate a beetle larva in a fallen trunk. the male is much smaller shown at the end.

Dorset - Minterne Gardens

On our last full day in Dorset, we spent the afternoon in Minterne Gardens - a study in greens, dappled sunlight and magnificent plants and architecture.

Dorset - West Bay People and Birds (30/05/2023)

The strong late afternoon sun at West Bay last week created some great silhouettes and side lighting for the people and birds. 

 

Dorset - Chesil Beach (30/05/2023)

Back from Dorset but still lots to process and record on my Blog (aka diary!!). I wanted to visit Chesil beach as I always find it a wonderful mixed wildlife area and was rewarded with insects, flowers and birds - here only a sample. The skylark had a very battered tail presumably as a result of ground nesting in a very rough terrain. Quite a few butterflies including mating Common Blues and lots of Bee Orchids, Broomrape and Wild Gladioli.

Spiders and Damselflies at Sunset 2

Another clear sunset so out round the lake this time using a ring flash to illuminate the foreground - Common Blue Damselflies and the Long-jawed spider.
