Toft Wood After the Snow

Yesterday, as soon as the sun was high enough to thaw the icy bit of Miller's Road for walking, I headed down to Toft Wood with my camera. There was a combination of a light layer of snow on the grounds and trees augmented by frost in the damper parts by the Bourn Brook - a very magical look with the reds of the berries and autumn oak leaves. After half an hour exploring, I headed out of the wood and round to the allotments via the Badger Sett. Very pleased to see plenty of characteristic very broad flat badger footprints at the entrance to the hole (with Rabbit and Pheasant)

First Snowfall

We had a very brief snow shower this morning - just enough to whiten the paths - Ted wasn't too sure about wanting the walk until we got to the meadow where the snow had melted.

Favourite Walk Toft to Hardwick Wood and Caldecote Church

Some images from my favourite local walk - one I do at least once a week from Toft towards Hardwick then down to the Brook, up to Frog Hall, along to Hardwick wood, round to Caldecote Church and back to Toft. It changes so dramatically through the seasons (see Ann Miles Blog: Favourite Local Walk (pin-sharp.blogspot.com) for a September view)

Paxton Pits Snow, Ice and Birds

With the Pits themselves  frozen, the water birds have congregated by the river, while smaller birds are struggling to find food in the snow covered vegetation. Only the Heron remained on Hernonry South Lake. The Barn Owl was out quartering around midday while the Goldcrest was tirelessly hunting on the river bank. Bright sunny day so the views were magical with the ice patterns and frost on top of snow
