Surfers and Daisies in Guernsey

Guernsey Festival of Photography

I am visiting Guernsey at the time of their Photographic Festival and am very impressed at the range of exhibitors and events. The theme is Identity and has attracted some excellent speakers. Last night we went to a talk by Martin Parr - very entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The exhibits are all over the town including the bus shelters. The exhibits did not impress the trio above. Below a few snapshots in the rain - yes it followed me here.

Bath rooftops

Just to prove I made it to Bath for RPS, it is raining here and I can use my new camera phone.

Flies

Amazing variety of Diptera (flies) in a patch of nettles on a river bank in Dorset. May take some time to get the first three identified. The fourth image is the head of a Crane Fly - could pass as something from a science fiction film.

In the Garden

We spent a very enjoyable day among the sildlife in Colin's garden. Lots of insects, a toad, grass snake, birds, mice and voles all lined up to have their portraits done - well here's wishing but some good shots were recorded by the party.

Stormy Seas in Dorset

Our nature photography day was cancelled because of heavy rain and high winds so we visited Lyme Regis and Burton Bradstock. They decided to launch the Lifeboat and do some manouevres.

Swans Galore

A visit to Abbotsbury Swannery produced some very cute images.

Dorset

Four images from the first evening in Dorset. The sparrows were flying to a bird feeder and are against a very stormy sky. A short walk round the lakes produced some atmospheric images after the rain.

Second Visit to Cantebury

Three images from Monday's visit in the rain to the Cathedral. Ceiling from Tower - not as symmetrical as I wanted as I was putting the camera on the floor and hoping! Like the Chapter House with the mirror for viewing the ceiling. The corridor was very dark so pleased to get an image out of it that is reasonable when converted to monochrome.

Herne Bay

Herne Bay used to have a long pier from which steamers left to tour the coast and into London. Now the Pier Head is separated from the Land end of the pier after a series of fires, deliberate demolition during the war and the great storm in 1978.

Even in the rain on Monday, the town still has a certain elegance.

Rough Seas at Margate

Very rough sea in Margate today as well as heavy rain made exciting but very wet photography task. I managed to keep the camera dry under my jacket but did get drenched a few times by the waves.

Canterbury Cathedral

Very interesting visit to Cantebury Cathderal - thanks Ian for arranging this and Matthew for a very informative tour and access to various parts of the Cathedral not normally open. Mixture of Tilt and Shift, Fish-eye and 70-200mm lenses.
