Although the light wasn't great, I was pleased to have captured most of the sequence of this kingfisher catching and consuming a fish at Paxton yesterday.

Hardwick Fungi
The recent rain has resulted in lots of fungal activity in our local ancient woodland with slime moulds, toadstools, crusts etc sprouting out from old trunks and branches. As it is a fairly long walk to the wood, I was carrying my Fuji X100V compact with the Raynox250 Closeup lens which is quite difficult to preview the end result so I am pleased to have a few images of fungi that I am pleased with. Autumn is definitely on its way for those who like this time of year for photography!!

September Paxton Butterfly and Dragonfly Count 2026 versus 2024
We did the last Butterfly and Dragonfly Counts for 2026 on Saturday and the results for the Dragonflies were very similar to 2024 - lots of Common Darters, Willow Emerald Damselflies and Migrant Hawkers but Butterflies were absent except a couple of very damaged Small Whites. There are lots of large Blackberries this year being enjoyed by lots of different species including the Rhombic Leatherbug Syromastus rhombus
Sunday, September 22, 2024 The counts were dominated by Common Darters and Willow Emerald Damselflies with Small Copper, Small White, Commas and Speckled Wood Butterflies the most frequent butterflies. We also had quite a few Migrant Hawkers and one Southern (on Blackberry).
