Death of a Tree

This massive oak tree in Hardwick Wood had final succumbed to high winds and fallen but all around it life goes on especially the fungi. A few Wood Blewits and lots of very large Trooping Funnels (Clitocybe geotropa) along with various bracket type species and a small puffball

Using OM Olympus Lens in a Misty Wood

I took my legacy Olympus 50mm 1.8 lens for an outing into Toft wood on a gentle misty morning and was pleased with the gentle colours and interesting backgrounds that it produced.

Cobwebs in Toft Wood

The foggy mornings for the last two days transformed Toft Wood with large dew-covered cobwebs. The soft light accentuated the autumn colours of the leaves.

Sunflower Field in Autumn Mist

Much as I love Sunflowers when they are in full bloom, I think these softer images of the sunflowers in full bloom are my favourite shots of them. The bejewelled cobwebs and the misty backgrounds all add to the feel of elegant decay.

Morning Mist in Toft

It was a very atmospheric morning in Toft today with the mist hugging the ground until the sun was well up. The sunflower field gave great foregrounds for the misty distant trees (more sunflower portraits to follow).

Report 5 on Wildlife Garden

I have been documenting how my garden has progressed after redesigning areas at the beginning of 2020. Everything is now dying down with most of the wildflowers long finished flowering and their seed all dispersed. The meadow/lawn was given a strim in early October and Yellow Rattle seed sowed hoping for some plants next year to help control the grass. I have cut any areas where flowering has finished and left the seed heads to disperse in situ, having collected some seed from all the different species to distribute to other areas. This results in a very untidy look for a couple of months but does ensure good dispersal for next year. I include 1 image from July to show how it looked and the last image is the view from the garden of a Buzzard warming up in the morning sun.
