Enjoying the Beach

A Springer Spaniel having a wonderful time on the beach at Weston - his owner asked for a picture of him catching a frisbee but the spaniel had other interests - chasing birds and shadows! On Sunday at Burnham-On-Sea, the exposed mud flats added an extra element to a run on the beach!

Kingfishers Perform Well at Slimbridge

We visited Slimbridge on Friday on the way to Somerset and spent a long while watching their pair of Kingfishers. The male brought the female a fish at regular intervals and after consuming it they both bathed and preened. Unfortunately for photographers they are at a distance, the light was abysmal and the windows of the hide have been locked to prevent disturbance - a sensible measure! Also enjoyed the Bewick Swan, flamingos and various duck species.

Test Shots with the Fuji 80mm Macro Lens

It is still too cold for many insects to be on the move but I managed to capture a very sleepy Bee Fly, three different Hoverfly species, Bumblebees and flies in Marwell and Weston Super Mare. On our way to the Southwest, we had called at MPB in Brighton to sell some items and buy a secondhand longer macro for my Fuji. Very pleased with the service they give and delighted with the new lens.

Grey Evening in Weston-Super-Mare

We took a brief walk along The Grand Pier before it closed at 4pm and then round to the old Birnbeck Pier via the Marine Lake. The Birnbeck Pier is still standing despite the sea and weather damage. It doen't look possible that it can be restored - very sad!
