Sunlit Winter Woodland

Rory's Wood at Paxton was looking its best this afternoon with the low sunlight filtered by a canopy of golden leaves falling on the bright green ferns and the golden and green sedges and grasses. There are quite a few fungi about, particularly the Candlesnuff fungus and some small brackets. More creative fungi attempts to follow, The first photo made me think of hot Mediterranean Olive Groves rather than a chilly English Woodland!!

Paxton Slime Moulds and Fungi

I spent a very engrossed couple of hours studying a large stump and several branches/logs around it for small fungi and slime moulds. Last year the stump was covered in the Fenugeek Stalkball and there are lots of fruiting bodies this year but not as prolific.

I found a couple of definite slime moulds, several species of small fungi and quite a few unidentified cups, caps and 'hairy mats' including an ozonium, the bright orange carpet of hyphae supporting the firerug inkcap Coprinellus domseticus, no longer fruiting.

Cambridge Mosque

I made a short visit to the Cambridge Mosque yesterday with my granddaughter on a very wet morning. I was surprised how much light entered the prayer hall through the domes. Single shots except image 2 which is an in-camera multiple exposure.  I made a short visit to the Cambridge Mosque yesterday with my granddaughter on a very wet morning. I found the combination of intricate geometric shapes, patterns people themselves make and architecture took my attention

Hardwick Later Fungi Photography

The sun had enough warmth on Friday to melt the ice by midday and gave some lovely side lighting as in the Jelly Ear. Some images are Focus stacks and all images are taken with Fuji 100XV using a  250X Raynox Macro adaptor for the smaller species. Last image is an in-camera composite of one in and one out of focus image

Frozen Mosses and Toadstools Hardwick Wood

A very cold night left ice on all the Mosses and Toadstools in Hardwick Wood which quickly melted as the morning sunshine reached them.
