RSPB FRampton Marshes - All About Avocets

Avocets are very much in control of the wetland habitats at Frampton Marshes Nature Reserve and will attack any other bird within its territory (or not!) including Gadwall, Mallard and Spoonbills. They were also still actively mating, building  and sitting on nests as well as guarding the youngsters.

Insects in the Vegetation RSPB Frampton Marsh

This is the selection of insects photographed in the vegetation on Wednesday at Frampton Marsh

Insects on Flowers at RSPB Frampton Marshes

It was a warm and sunny day for our visit to RSPB Frampton on Wednesday, a bit breezy for macro but there are several paths that I knew from previous visits would be sheltered and these proved excellent for insects. Here a selection of insects visiting flowers, predominately Dog Rose and Hogweed , starting with two very small but distinctive wetland Hoverflies and a Soldier fly.

A Wet Day at Skegness

I often think piers look at their 'best' in bad weather and, certainly, Skegness Pier (what is left of the Victorian structure) looked  very atmospheric in yesterday's rain. It did stop raining after our fish and chip lunch so we decided to visit Gibraltar Point and spent a bit of time looking at the seals hauled up on the saltmarsh and, across the Wash, the view of Hunstanton cliffs etc.
