Christmas Eve was very wet in central London - we took a walk past Waterloo Station onto the South Bank in pouring rain - good for reflections and umbrellas but limiting in the time we could stay out.

Christmas Trip to London Day 1
We decided that we would go ahead with our planned trip to London over Christmas. The only part of our trip where we might mix with people was on the train from Cambridge to London so we planned a lunchtime journey. This certainly worked as there was only one other person on our part of the train. We travelled to Liverpool Street and I had forgotten its fine Victorian architecture. I also played a bit with multiple exposure. We then walked down to London Bridge passing The Monument. From here it was along Borough Road to our Travelodge, which, as we predicted is very quiet.

Frosty Morning Walk
My morning walk was a delightful frosty adventure today with the old sunflowers, leaves, berries and even the cabbages in the allotments rimmed with ice crystals.

Waders and Wildfowl at Welney
One of the most spectacular sights at Welney are the large flocks of Black-tailed Godwits and Lapwings that rest of the islands on the wash, taking to the air every time a Marsh Harrier or other raptor passed overhead.

Swans in the Mist - Welney WWT
A magical experience yesterday with the sights and sounds of the Whooper Swans at Welney WWT Reserve. The mist remained all day and was quite thick when we arrived. The first few images were taken lying on the ground so I am at the level of the birds - wonderful for atmospheric shots as it enhances the mistiness of the scenes. Low light level meant the images were at ISO3200 and a bit underexposed to get sufficient shutterspeed with my F8 lens but they have processed ok and hopefully give a feel of the day.
