We watched a Great Crested Grebe catch a fish (carp apparently from the long dorsal fin and barb above mouth) and was having great difficulty swallowing it when a Common Gull swooped down to pirate the fish. But it was too late as the grebe had dived and, when it surfaced, had lost or swallowed the fish

Cambridge Punting in the Snow
As I had missed both the previous snowstorms in Cambridge, I took a trip into town with my camera on Sunday, having decided a walk with the dog was not on the cards for those who don't like bad weather (no names!!). Amazed at how resilient the tourists are, often climbing into already wet punts and also the variety of snow falling even in the hour that I was there.

Beautiful Light but Limited Wildlife at Fowlmere RSPB Reserve
There was some beautiful late sunshine on Friday so we went for a walk around Fowlmere - very few birds around but great to see a group of four Fallow Deer feeding in the reeds.

St Ives Cambridgeshire, Parish Church and Surrounds
All Saints Parish Church in St Ives is attractively situated on the Ouse. The tower and spire at 151 feet is not the tallest but 'the excellent proportions are apt to make it seem more' and are a challenge to photograph as it is enclosed by fences and trees. This is a 4-image panorama taken with a 27mm lens as horizontal frames and turned into a panorama with Lightroom The spire was blown down by the great gale of 1741 and rebuilt in 1748; it was again rebuilt in 1879. Finally in 1918 a large part was knocked down onto the church roof when an aeroplane crashed into it and it had to be rebuilt.
