Macro at Botanic Gardens

We spent a couple of hours at the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge this morning - I wanted to further test the 50 mm Zeiss Touit lens on the Fuji and am pretty pleased with the results

Lackford Lakes 10 o'clock Kingfisher

A Kingfisher has arrived at around 10 o'clock each time with have been to Lackford recently and at 10.12am it was there on its perch waiting for a portrait. Tried to guess where it would enter the water but only got the reflection. Adult Great Crested Grebe busy catching fish and offering to its youngster.

Cormorants and Grey Herons at Paxton Pits

The Cormorants were sticking mainly to the water yesterday and leaving all the formation flying to the Herons - three of them spent an awful lot of energy flying round and scabbling over perches.

Mablethorpe SandRacing - Pictorial Shots

The very bright sunlight gave some great opportunites for high key images such as the first image of Sarah, John and Phil waiting for the racing to start. I also liked the images from my final position where we could get the bikes with a sea and surf background.

Sand Racing at Mablethorpe 13th November

Six CCC Members decided to go to the Sand Racing on Mablethorpe Beach on Sunday. It was a bright sunny day so plenty of light to play with. The challenge was to get good combinations of bikes, light in the eyes and a sense of movement. Individually achievable but getting all three eluded me in most shots. Here a few 'classic' shots that I liked (more 'pictorial' shots to follow)

Supermoon Views at Mablethorpe

When I realised we would be at the seaside for the Supermoon on November 13/14th, I wondered what I could get in the foreground to give an idea of scale. Difficult as nothing is far enough away to get in focus with the moon but here some attempts as the moon rose on November 13th evening, changing from red to white as it rose higher.

Monday was cloudy but I managed to catch the moon setting on Tuesday morning and again looked for things to give scale. Using 560mm lens equivalent allowed an idea of the size of this supermoon - the largest and brightest since 1948 apparently.
