Shadows and Silhouettes Cambridge

The low bright sunlight this morning in Rose Crescent and Magdalene Street in Cambridge this morning was throwing people and bikes etc into bold silhouettes with strong shadows. Very difficult to capture in photographs but here is a flavour of the scenes.

Mini Fungi etc at Paxton

Looking on wet logs etc revealed quite a few small fungi species at Paxton today, lots of Collembolids scurrying around and one possible slime mould of a leaf stem (very very small subject!!) plus a yellow slime mould mycelium on a wet log.

First Snowfall

We had a very brief snow shower this morning - just enough to whiten the paths - Ted wasn't too sure about wanting the walk until we got to the meadow where the snow had melted.

Focus-stacked Fungi etc

As well as the previous blog post of single-exposure images with my Fuji Compact, I also took several focus stacks with the Olympus 60mm macro lens of the various frosted specimens and also this daisy among the frosty grass and leaves.

Toft Meadow - First Frosts

A light ground frost last night and a beautiful clear sunny morning though, with strong northly wind, it felt very cold. The Bourn Brook and Meadows looked stunning in the clear morning light and there were lots of icy toadstools to photograph so a couple of hours disappeared from a busy schedule!

Paxton's Small Fungi and Slime Moulds

Very enjoyable walk with Ann and Mike at Paxton on a Slime mould hunt, which proved successful with one definite species and possibly a second one. Ann found an extensive colony of the green Elf Cup. Amazing how many small creatures also lived on rotting logs including Collembolids as on the first image, the appropriately named Winter Moth and Centipedes. When we looked hard at the mossy areas ther were small toadstools still present. Light was poor and images handheld so not great quality!
