Cambridge to Macclesfield Train stops

The scheduled trains were cancelled on my journey to Macclesfield so with replacement services I ended up with a bit longer in London and Stafford than I expected so I did a bit of architectural photography as I am putting a talk together for a future date.

Season is Changing at Paxton

There are definite signs that Spring is on its way at Paxton with the Cormorants in breeding plumage and busy nest building, and the Great Crested Grebes are showing their breeding ruffs. Winter visitors are still with us while immature nonbreeding Cormorants and Herons are sitting around looking very bored. Poor light most of the time for photography.

Pine Woods in Full-spectrum Photography

My images using the Full-Spectrum camera  in the pine woods at Sandy on Wednesday confirmed that I was not alone! First this very laid back tree and then all those faces in the dead tree bark - reminded me of a William Blake etching such as the Vision of the Last Judgement. The last image is a bit of colour fun with Foxglove rosettes.

RSPB Sandy Fauna Hunt

I spent a couple of hours at Sandy yesterday hunting for micro-beasties in the leaflitter and under logs, while serenaded by Ravens, Buzzard, Red Kites and drumming Woodpeckers!! Here are some of the finds - mostly now identified and shortly to be recorded on i-record. As noted in the literature, the spider Agroeca brunnea is most commonly identified from its egg sac - I did not realise I had recorded the spider as well till I started to process the image. (I will add the species list later!)

Macro at Paxton Pits

Decided to do a bit of focus-stacking practice on subjects in Rory's Wood at Paxton. Found a couple of definite slime moulds, plus some 'oddities'.
