I walked through Cambridge this morning in the pouring rain and took a few snaps with my pocket camera of people with umbrellas.

Stanwick Lakes - Where Were All the Birds?
The very high water levels in the Lakes and the river Nene resulted in a lot fewer birds than previous visits. Coupled with overcast skies and strong winds meant we had a pretty sparse day as regards subjects to photograph though the feeders produced good opportunities including Muntjac deer.
. However, the group enjoyed a long walk round the reserve and a warming drink/lunch in the visitor centreSunday, January 8, 2023
Water Birds at Summer Leys
Some of the birds that we photographed at Summer Leys yesterday afternoon when the weather improved to give occasional sunny intervals but still with rain showers.

Summer Leys Birds at the Feeders
Despite the rain and poor light, our RPS Nature Group managed to photograph a wide variety of passerines on the feeders. Good to see about 6 Bullfinches among the other finches.

Windy Walk on Royston Heath
I walked across Royston Heath, through the Beechwoods and back along the edge of the golf course this morning admiring the winter trees and wind-swept clouds. As with my hunt for flowers in bloom in Toft on January 1st, I found only a single dandelion and small patches of Groundsel though the Hazel catkins are in full flower

Bearded Tits at RSPB Lakenheath
A beautiful sunny day for a walk at Lakenheath reserve. Definite lack of birds - these were the only species that we saw but such a delight to watch this group of Bearded Tits feeding in the reeds. I couldn't stay long but others in our CCC group got some great shots when one perched on a single tall reed!
