Feeding Strategies at Lackford Lakes

Food is obviously at a premium over the winter months. Gadwalls appear to be a gentle non-aggressive duck but they spend their time with coots eating what they bring up from the bottom and occasionally steal food directly from the coots – a behaviour known as kleptoparasitism. At the feeding station, the robin attacked anything that came at all close to feeding area - the tits managed to get some seed by flitting in very fast while the larger sized blackbirds risked the aggression. The low light levels meant I was shooting between 2000 and 12800 ISO so not great quality.

Cormorant Exiting Water

Taken at Lackford yesterday in poor light at 240 frames per second and slowed to 24 fps. Love the elegance shown when slowed down - my dance teacher would be pleased with those foot movements.

Heron and Dabchick at Lackford Lakes

A much-reduced party from CCC and the RPS Nature Group visited Lackford Lakes and enjoyed photographing Heron and Dabchicks in the pouring rain from a dry but drafty hide. I tried some slow shutterspeeds on the rain and was surprised to be able to handhold at 1/60th second (subsequent frames 1/250th, 1/1000th, 1/1000th and 1/2000th). A pair of Dabchicks kept us amused for a lot of the morning.

Just back from a weekend in Emmbrook near Wokingham Surrey giving a day's lecture to the Thames Valley RPS. Yesterday evening, we had a bit of a walk round the area including the impressively decorated Underpass!!

Light Painting Toft Photogroup

My favourite image from Toft Photogroup yesterday evening was the bottles and glasses lit by glow sticks and UV torch but there were some close runners up with the fairy lights etc

Toft Garden Mid-November

I haven't previously recorded the flowers in the garden in November  but, with this year's mild autumn, I thought it would be interesting to record what is still in bloom to compare with future years,
