As I had missed both the previous snowstorms in Cambridge, I took a trip into town with my camera on Sunday, having decided a walk with the dog was not on the cards for those who don't like bad weather (no names!!). Amazed at how resilient the tourists are, often climbing into already wet punts and also the variety of snow falling even in the hour that I was there.

Beautiful Light but Limited Wildlife at Fowlmere RSPB Reserve
There was some beautiful late sunshine on Friday so we went for a walk around Fowlmere - very few birds around but great to see a group of four Fallow Deer feeding in the reeds.

St Ives Cambridgeshire, Parish Church and Surrounds
All Saints Parish Church in St Ives is attractively situated on the Ouse. The tower and spire at 151 feet is not the tallest but 'the excellent proportions are apt to make it seem more' and are a challenge to photograph as it is enclosed by fences and trees. This is a 4-image panorama taken with a 27mm lens as horizontal frames and turned into a panorama with Lightroom The spire was blown down by the great gale of 1741 and rebuilt in 1748; it was again rebuilt in 1879. Finally in 1918 a large part was knocked down onto the church roof when an aeroplane crashed into it and it had to be rebuilt.

Storm David Disrupts Our Plans
We had planned a trip to London to walk round Olympic Park and the canals but, after waiting for nearly an hour for the coach to Stratford, we decided that, as the M11 was blocked and also the A14 from Diss, it was unlikely that a coach would arrive. Quick change of plan and took the Guided Busway to St Ives - this turned out to be as long a journey as the coach to London but was unevetful. The journey gives some great views of the new buildings and constructions at the Addenbrookes' Site. When we got back to Trumpington P & R we found we had a flat battery and had to call out the AA to start the car before we could get home. Not a day that went well but everyone was very good tempered about it and the light in St Ives was beautiful (next blog)!!

Toft Millenium Wood - 17 Years of Growth
Toft wood is a community wood planted in 2000. Here is one of the 40 oak trees that I planted on a very wet day in 2000. They are growing well alongside the Hazel and Alder bushes. Our 4-month puppy Ted enjoyed a walk along the Drift - always a favourite walk with our dogs.
