Ice and Snow at Vatavatyn, Iceland

We noticed this beautiful lake on Wednesday when driving over the pass and decided to make a visit there before our long journey to Vik yesterday. It was snowing when we stopped but cleared to give lovely views of the lake and surrounding peaks. The clouds were always changing and towards the coast the sky even had some colour. We also stopped briefly to photograph the 'red hut' - another for the series!

Farewell to a Very Windy Budir Iceland

Due to the high winds during our three  night stay in Budir, I didn't get enough time to explore the wonderful black rocky volcanic beaches around the hotel (4th image). Even the waterfalls were being blown up hill (7th image). Here some images to show the beauty of the setting - panorama taken from the hotel.

Djupalonssandur Beach after the Storm, Iceland

Constant 70 mph winds and rain prevented us going out till the afternoon. The light and waves at this beautiful beach were worth the wait. Colours are as shot and deepened as dusk came. Heavy rain drove us off the beach as darkness fell.

Snaefellnes Iceland - Making the Best of Adverse Conditions

The weather yesterday was not ideal for photography - howling wind and frequent heavy rain showers. However we managed to occupy the day photographically. The first shots are of Kirkujufell mountain and waterfalls and then a nearby beach and ruined farmhouse. The last two shots are from the car and a prelude to tomorrows venue.

On Way to Snaefellnes Peninsula

We spent Monday travelling from Reykjavik to Budir stopping at suitable locations including a frozen lake and a fast-slowing river

Icelandic Horses at Play

We stopped during our drive to Budir to enjoy the antics of these very frisky horses against a fabulous backdrop. As usual, they had been well trained in posing!
