Aurora borealis Reykjavik

Delighted the Northern lights didn't let me down as, just like my last visit to Iceland, they danced for us soon after our arrival in the city. Not as spectacular as the 2014 ones that Sue and I witnessed (see https://pin-sharp.blogspot.is/2014/02/northern-lights-iceland.html), but still a good display.

On the Way to Iceland

After thick cloud all the way from Stansted to Iceland, the sky cleared enough to get some great views of the South Coast and Reykjavik. Images of Keflavik airport for Phil!

Experiments with Strobe Flash and Bubble Refraction

Many thanks to Paul for an excellent evening last night when seventeen CCC Members had great fun using strobe flash for walking figure and for capturing large bubbles. I failed to get one popping but did enjoy trying and am intrigued by some of the results. Multiple flashes have produced psychedelic landscapes from alien planets - the stripes are Shelagh's sweater I think. Note the different techniques in producing good bubbles - Shelagh and Richard win for their athletic poses. We also photographed static bubble films for the colours but I didn't take a macro so one to try again.

Swans Flying In to Roost at Welney

A few favourite images from Welney on Friday as swans fly in onto the ice at Welney prior to finding open water to roost for the night. Good to pick out one Bewick among the Whoopers and with a radio collar - see BBC article

Welney Afternoon Sunshine and Slow Shutterspeeds

After a foggy start, the sun made it out with clear skies for an hour or so before it clouded over again at sunset. Spent some time taking slow shutterspeed images -from 1/30th to 1/125th second. Love the way the primaries of the swans record in a blur of motion.

Winter at Welney Wildfowl Trust, Waders, Ducks and Small Birds

Eleven Members of CCC  visited Welney yesterday - the morning was misty with lots of opportunities for atmospheric shots of swans (to follow). In the afternoon, the sun broke through and gave us good views from the Lyle Hide of Redshank, Teal, Wigeon, Stonechat, Lapwing, Pied Wagtail and Snipe, all attempting to find food among the ice.

An Apple a Day for Fieldfare and Woodpecker

I always keep back as many apples as I can from the autumn harvest to put out in the cold spells. The Fieldfares, Blackbirds and Green Woodpeckers have been very grateful for this supplement to their diet. (taken through windows so not great quality)
