Charles Rennie Mackintosh Designed House in Northampton

78 Derngate is the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh. It was 100 years old when MacKintosh redesigned the interior in 1916 for his patron, the Northampton Engineer W.J.Bassett-Lowke. I liked the kitchen for its space and light feeling, which may surprise folk as I am very sensitive to green!! The sitting room was very claustrophobic though might be better when the curtains are open.

Charles Rennie MacKintosh's Only English House Design

While in Northampton, I visited 78 Derngate, the only house in England designed by C.R. MacKintosh. more about this to follow with second batch of photos later. I particularly like the bedroom and bathroom shown here - maybe a makeover is due at home!!

An Interrupted Lunch

On Saturday, we set off at 11.30 for a quick early lunch with Sadie and Meredith at the local cafe, expecting to be back soon after 12. We eventually arrived home at 1.30pm as we had only just ordered lunch when the fire alarms went off in the adjacent building and we had to evacuate. They gave us a refund but, of course, the girls wanted to see the fire engine arrived. About 20 minutes later two fire engines arrived, lights flashing and sirens. Fortunately it was a very minor incident, So next to find alternative lunch - oh dear only McDonalds near enough - very busy to park and get served. (First photos with my new phone - not an iphone -  so pleased to know ok when out and about for record shots)

Autumn in Toft

There are abundant berries and seeds around this year - said to portend a harsh winter! Can anyone identify the crop growing on a corner of a field in Toft, presumably for game bird feed.

Thames Barge and Smack Racing

We had the full range of weather conditions for the Barge and Smack Racing Event on Saturday from the beautiful sunrise to dramatic skies and then rain as the skipper and mate returned the barge to Brightlingsea in the afternoon.
