October in Cambridge

A selection of images from a walk into Cambridge yesterday on a beautiful sunny October day -shirt-sleeve temperatures and little wind. Punting in full swing and the students are back.

Shuttleworth Air Show - Vulcan's Last Public Appearance

Perfect weather for the Airshow at Shuttleworth to enjoy the varied older aircraft of their collection, the acrobatics of Mark Jeffries and the last public viewing of the Vulcan. I liked the first glimpse of the Vulcan accompanied by an Avro Anson and then the crowd's reaction on its first flypass. Taken with the Fuji XT1 - can anyone explain why all the propellers are curved in the photos on this camera?

Cambridge Rugby Union FC Do What England Couldn't

My first match of the season and a very exciting one. 15 minutes into the game, CRUFC looked in for a heavy defeat and the opposition, Old Albanians, were still in the lead by 6 points with 5 minutes to go but a try and final conversion saw CRUFC win 29-23.
Here a few images from the match - lucky with the light as the sun broke through in the second half to give fantastic back lighting. Image 2 doesn't need a caption other than 'Ouch'. Old Albanians got a yellow card straight after this but not sure if the referee saw this particular foul.

Santon Downham. Norfolk

Yet another beautiful warm sunny autumn day for a visit to Santon Downham (Thetford Forest). There were lots of fungi around - often already nibbled by slugs but a few good specimens were found. I was mainly using the 24mm Tilt and Shift lens with some were taken with a 100mm macro.

Stowe Gardens

The first shot here is one of those images that folk will think is manipulated i.e. the geese have been put in (and badly because where is the shadow) but it is straight from the camera. The light was beautiful on Wednesday with very blue skies.

Stowe Gardens Infrared

Perfect autumn day for our CCC visit to Stowe Gardens - even some little puffy clouds to add a bit of interest to the sky. I took both infrared images (below) and colour images (to follow).

This Morning's Total Eclipse of the Moon

One of the advantages of looking after Sadie and Meredith while Ellie and Matt are having a holiday is that there wasn't much chance that I would not be awake for the Total Eclipse. A clear night so a beautiful view of the colour changes leading up to totality.
