Gannets and Fulmars at Bempton RSPB Reserve

Beautiful day at Bempton Cliffs where the Gannets still have young. There are 22,000 gannets there so plenty of opportunity to catch them in flight along with Fulmars and Herring Gulls. Also good to see a large flock of Tree Sparrows.

Filey in the Mist

Although Scarborough was clear, Filey just along the coast lay under a blanket of sea mist, giving beautiful soft light for a time. The sun quickly burned it off and the rest of the day was sunny and hot.

Scarborough Travelodge

Scarborough Travelodge has the best position of any that we have visited over the years and, this time, we were very lucky with the room allocation having a sea view through two windows looking at slightly different angles - hence the kink in the stitched panorama. Facing East, the evenings give just the pastel colours at sunset while the morning presented us with a full sunrise. What more could you ask for - and the room was only £30 per night booked in advance!!

Reeth Wensleydale Show

A few images from a very crowded and hot Wensleydale Show - dominated by Sheep, Shepherds and Horses as expected.

Red Grouse on Wensleydale hills

The heather moors in Wensleydale are in full bloom and smell wonderful. The Red Grouse appear to have had a good season and many have eluded the guns so far. The females have just the white ring around the eye while the males have the red patch and a much chunkier beak.

Beamish Museum of the North

We spent a day at the Living Museum of the North where they have reconstructed a town and Pit village from 1913. As with all these reconstructed towns, there were plenty of people playing the various roles in the museum quite happy to be photographed.
