Essence of Haworth Yorkshire

We stopped off at Haworth on the way to Burnley where Chris, Paul and I are staying to attend the PAGB Print finals at Blackburn on Sunday. Only time for a quick tour of the railway, old town, Bronte Vicarage and Church all looking great on a summer autumn day

Cambridge Botanic Gardens- Testing a Lens

I borrowed Phil's 55-200mm Fuji lens to see how I liked it as it is half the weight of my 50-140mm and hence useful for travelling. The autumn colours are just starting and a helpful Jay perched to test focusing. Overall satisfied though, as expected, not the crispness and contrast of the heavier lens.

Perfect October Day in Cambridge

Beautiful sunny day in Cambridge yesterday and lots of visitors took to the river. Very few clouds around but late in the afternoon there were some great textured high clouds with areas of opalescence. Certainly a day that shows off the interiors of King's and Trinity chapels very well.

Epping forest - Trees in Infrared

As I was staying in Chigwell after talking to Chingford PS (thanks for a very warm welcome), I took a walk in Epping forest in the morning before returning home. I am still experimenting with the IR-converted Sony and how best to process them. I found that setting the camera to RAW and JPEG and setting Creative style Autumn Leaves in camera (i.e. a warm profile), the JPEGS could be used from the camera as colour images and the raw converted via Silver Efex giving two variants for same image

Guernsey - Milky Way Ticked Off Wish List

I was hopeful knowing that the skies are very dark in Guernsey that I would be able to see and photograph the Milky Way but have been disappointed so many times before. This trip the conditions were exactly right with two very clear nights and the Milky Way arching across the sky at a reasonable hour. Thanks Chris who took us to a good foreground point on one night. I used the 8mm fisheye on the second night to capture the arc right across Cobo Bay. A few starry skies to finish - last image is 7.5 minutes - I have a series of shorter ones to stack but not enough to make a good trail shot.

Guernsey - Light Painting on Cobo Beach

Guernsey visitors and residents must have wondered what was happening on Friday night as strange creatures roamed around the beach - some looking like giant millipedes, others with enormous eyes. Add to that around 10 photographers with tripods doing a slow backwards walk as the tide came in and one man wearing a very swirly skirt!
