People Day

We bought a Metro Day card and went to Sunderland, then to South shields where there was a bric a brac market, across the Tyne by ferry to North Shields and then back to Newcastle. I tried a bit of candid people photography - not an easy thing where no-one else had a camera.

Sunset on the Tyne

A series of photos taken as the light faded and the lights came on. We need another trip as a boat went through at just the wrong time and spoilt the reflection in the last image.

The Sage Gateshead

The Sage Building in Gateshead, designed by Norman Foster, is very difficult to photograph well from the outside as it faces north and therefore against the sun for most of the day. Thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of photographing the exterior and the interior of the building.

Newcastle

We have travelled up to Newcastle by train for five nights at the Royal Station Hotel. The sky was so great with low fluffy clouds that we had to take an orientation walk over to Gateshead and back via theSage, Baltic Centre and Millennium Bridge.

Clare College Gardens

Clare College Gardens are looking wonderfully colourful at the moment, especially the herbaceous borders and the water lilies. I am not sure if the roses had come out of the garden but they were being carried with pride.

More photos from Spartan Race

I have had quite a lot of queries from competitors asking if I had photographs of them from the 29th July Spartan Race at Bassingbourn. I only photographed the first four heats (10, 10.30, 11 and 11.30 starts) as I was there to photograph the CRUFC teams.  Their photographs are at:

I took a lot of other photos and so have also put up images from the first two heats on Flikr

I will upload the third heat competitors shortly to the same site.

London Kings Cross

The newly completed King's Cross entrance is stunning from the song wall outside to the Western concourse with its vaulted roof -Europe’s largest single span station structure. As to whether  photography is allowed - the guy in blue spotted me looking up at the roof with my camera - not allowed! OK if you are photographing friends in the concourse! So on the way back in the evening another session with no problems this time - I wondered if including myself as in last shot would make it legitimate.
