Botanic Gardens 2

The weather was very variable on Monday and this was reflected in the 'colours' that the Full Spectrum camera recorded in the open and under the trees. My favourite ones were those taken under foliage such as the first image and those inside a Gunnera plant.

Green Therapy along the River

I have the reputation for finding bright greens in images very distracting so wondered whether images with green as the only colour would work. Images from a walk along the river in Cambridge on the hottest day (so far!) of 2023. With the Chestnuts already turning to autumn hues it certainly simplified the scenes. Last two images playing with different colours.

Open Gardens (NGS) Toft

Three Gardens were open in Toft yesterday for the National Gardens Scheme which raises valuable money for nursing and health charities. I started at the largest, Manor Cottage by the church with its sweeping lawn, meadow, copse and herbaceous borders. Old Horse Yard is more compact and very beautifully laid out with its arches, paths and geometric beds. By the time I got to the third garden on Comberton Road the thunderstorm was arriving but certainly time to appreciate a garden started from scratch in 2020 which reimagines a late 18th century garden with four interconnected zones including my favourite, a Ritual Landscape Zone, which was full of British native plants.

Thick Mist This Morning

I hoped for some interesting light through the mist this morning but it stayed very thick until the sun was too high. Ted enjoyed his walk however.

Toft Sunrise and Frosty Wood

Sometimes we just have to rejoice in the good things in life like having sheep to talk to and a great sunrise. Yesterday was a clear sunny day from dawn to dusk. I spent the morning in Hardwick Wood which looked magical with the frost and clear light; occasionally spooky and certainly our very large golden retriever was very apprehensive about the Muntjac deer barking and the Buzzards mewing very loudly in the wood.
