Sunday Evening in Stockholm

You are never far from the water in Stockholm so it is only a short walk from the hotel to be able to the waterfront. Lots of wonderful reflections from Gamla Stan (the Old City) and views around the City Hall, new Conference centre and Railway Station. As you can see it was snowing fairly heavily but this disappeared in the long exposures.

Arrival at Skavsta Airport Sweden

I left Stansted on time this morning on my journey to Stockholm. We arrived on time at Skavsta Airport in a snowstorm! The next leg was the Flybus to Stockholm - around 2 hour journey.

Sweden Day 5

The light on our final day in Sweden was not good so I struggled a bit to identify and photograph birds at the Oset and Rynningeviken Reserve but enjoyed the scenery and views of  Gadwall, Temincks Stint, Hooded Crows, various Wagtails and Red-necked Grebe.

Sweden Farna Ekopark and Kvismare Valley

After walking in the forest, we visited a lake and were delighted to find a party of five Black Throated divers. After an early supper at our new lodgings, we went to a hide that overlooked the Kvismare Valley to watch the Cranes flying in. Soon they were arriving  by the wind pumps, together with tumbling Greylags, some Whooper Swans and a pair of White-tailed Eagles.

Sweden - Tranquil Waters and Swarming Darters

One of the aims of my short visit to Sweden is to photograph some personal new dragonfly species and yesterday produced two more - the Yellow-Winged Darter and the Black Darter. The former were swarming laying eggs along the edge of this beautiful lake. There was also time for a couple more fly images to add to my collection. Identification will have to wait!!
