London Long Exposures at Dusk

I purchased a variable neutral density filter some years ago and was disappointed that it didn't work on my Fuji wide-angle lens. However I recently tried it on the X1000v and found it worked fine so I am now experimenting with very long exposures. Christmas Day was very murky and misty in London. Here are a few images that worked relatively well with the filter rotated to give 30-50 seconds exposures. Keeping the camera still on a fairly flimsy tripod proved a challenge!

Punting Trip

It was great to meet up with Alistair, Bev and Rowan after too long a break due to Covid restrictions. Alistair very expertly punted us up to the Granta from Mill Lane and then down as far as St Johns before returning. The river was very busy but the swans with their 7 cygnets didn't seem to worry about all the punts and people provided bits of picnic were being shared.

Evening light in Cambridge

A few more images from our evening walk round Cambirdge Backs with CCC Members. The Backs are a mass of Dandelion clocks at the moment and all the greens were so vibrant after the rain. Canoeists gave a splash of colour for the image but it did look hard work.

Playing with Multiple Exposures

A dull cloudy day - no interesting light to play with so decided on Multiple Exposure mode. The blend mode is set to Dark so figures etc in black with tend to come forward in the composite giving some quite convincing images like the first one here. Very apposite for our times, the lady in the third ME has been given a mask during the blending of images. The last two use two different film types for the two images (sepia and monochrome).

River Cam, Cambridge

A second set of misty images from a morning walk in Cambridge, There were lots of boats of various types out on the Cam. The young man in the fifth image managed to capsize and had to be helped out of the icy water. There were a couple of Boxers sparring on Jesus Green and a very close Heron (shot with a 55mm lens) - perhaps a bit disorientated in the mist.
