Reflections in Flooded Fields

The floods are going down in Toft but there are still several lakes in the large meadow by Bourn Brook. There was a thin coating of ice yesterday morning which gave some very impressionist reflections.

Final 2020 images from Toft

Some images from yesterday's frosty misty walk around my local area. We saw several robins feeding on berries especially in frost-free areas deep in bushes. The frost was spasmodic often on one side of twigs or only on the tops of trees.

Frozen Woodland Floor

The overnight low temperatures and mist resulted in ice crystals in the mosses, leaves and even fungi.

Slide Scanning Project 1: Cambridge

My winter project is to scan any slides that have historical or pictorial interest (and to recycle the rest) - no small task as there are thousands of them over the years. Here are a few from yesterday's batch. First the River Cam when it froze over in 1997 and the view in July 1997. The vertical shots are of an earlier cold winter in 1991 and my earliest Cambridge view - probably 1962 when I first visited Cambridge. Robert Sayle became John Lewis in 2007. The next four shots are from 1999 and the last two certainly the last century(!) as the trees lining  Parkside are still very small.

A Bit of Time to Catch Up on Processing etc

I have been trying to use the Christmas break to catch up on adding galleries to my website, which replaced my previous long-standing one about 6 months ago. I am making slow but steady progress, the latest addition being some colour images from a trip in 2017 to Iceland. A good antidote to some of our recent very drab grey days!!

Estonia - Keila-Joa Waterfall

On our last day in Tallin, we went on a day tour to some interesting sites outside Tallin. The Keila waterfall is the third largest and the longest waterfall in Estonia. It is 6 metres high. There is a renovated hydroelectric power plant and one of the grandest manor houses in Estonia. The weather had been milder than expected so the waterfall was not fully frozen.

Minus 30 degrees and Falling in Sweden

This morning we flew from Stockholm to Lulea and then drove north to Jokkmokk stopping just as the sun dropped below the horizon by some water rapids. Definite blue hour with a very obliging moon.
