Spring Greens in cambridge

Morning rain gave way to clear sunshine after lunch for our return walk along the Cam to the car. Great to see different ages all out enjoying Cambridge at its greenest.

Green Men at Ely

We visited Ely yesterday and spent a long while in the cathedral hunting Green Man symbols. A Green Man is a sculpture or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves. Branches or vines may sprout from the mouth, nostrils, or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit. There is a lot written about the origin of Green Man sculptures, many believing it is a pagan artifact derived from the ancient Celts' worship of the head. There is a trail leaflet that says there are over 70 Green men and animals but we only found  6 of the listed 12. Sadie and Meredith also enjoyed looking at the Christmas Tree and Great-great-great-great grandfather's plaque as Bishop of Ely .

Castleton, Derbyshire - Shades of Green

I stopped in Castleton for a short while on my drive from Leeds area across to Chapel-en-Frith Camera Club on Wednesday. Mainly it was overcast but the sun broke through a few times to give great sculpturing to the views. Although not Ireland, there were certainly 40 shades of green.

New Forest Welcome

We had Friday morning free so Rikki and I had a quick introduction in the sunshine to a very wet underfoot New Forest. The greens are extra vibrant with all the rain so a conversion to monochrome seemed called for!

Green Woodpecker

This chirpy fellow was pecking ants etc out of our lawn - not sure what caused him to leap in the air.

Shades of Green

It is amazing how quickly the fields change colour at this time of the year. The wheat already has large ears of corn although the plants are less than a foot high. The rape fields have turned a silver colour.

Great to see a lot of bees around this year.

Experiments in Green

Having recently set 'Green' as a category in a club competition because I often don't like it in my images, I thought I would try some all green abstracts.

I particularly like the 'bottom' in the top right image - perhaps a portfolio of human forms in foliage is on the horizon.
